Andrew Shore said he got the name for his new firm, Black Swan, from the author Nassim Nicholas Taleb, who defines the phrase as a rare event. And, the lawyer added, “It’s better than the Shore Group.” Shore is going on his own after spending more than a year working for Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw.
Going it alone isn’t a new experience for Shore; he owned a publishing company while he was in college and started HillZoo.com, a website for congressional staffers.
Before he went to Mayer Brown, Shore was chief of staff to the House Republican Conference under Chairwoman Deborah Pryce (Ohio). He was also legislative director and general counsel for former Rep. Phil Crane (R-Ill.), after lobbying for the American Medical Association and working for former Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Archer (R-Texas).
Black Swan’s areas of expertise are tax, trade and health issues. Shore said he has two clients so far: Hoffmann-La Roche and Antigua Online Gaming Association.
